THE PAKISTAN RESOLUTION
INTRODUCTION

The twenty seventh session of all India Muslim league was held at a
resolution known as Pakistan Resolution at Lahoreon 23rdMarch 1940 A.D
under the president-ship of Quaid-e-Azam. This famous resolution which
is also known as Lahore Resolution was moved by theBengal chief
minister Maulvi A.K. FazulHaq. Through this resolution Muslims
demanded a separate homeland for themselves. Replaying to Gandhi,
Quaid-e-Azam once said:
"Muslims and Hindus are two major nations, and they have their own
culture and civilization, therefore they can't live together by all
canons of international law, Muslims are a nation."
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Muslims league held its annual session in Lahoreon 21-24thMarch,
1940.It was a historic meeting as the Muslim ofIndia took a decision
which lifts its deep impact on the freedom struggle of the Muslims of
the sub-continent.
PARTITION PROPOSALS
Infact the idea of partition ofIndiawas not new. Many different people
gave thisidea much beforePakistanresolution suchas:
ABDUL QADIR BILGRAMI
In 1920, he suggested the division of subcontinent between the Hindus
and Muslims, giving a list of districts which was almost identical to
the present boundaries ofEast West Pakistan.
GUL MUHAMMAD KHAN
Three years later in 1923 Sardar Chief Muhammad Khan proposed the
partition of sub continent by which the Muslims were to get area
fromPeshawartoAgra.
LALA RAJAT RAI:
In 1934, Lala Rajput Rai, one of the founders of Mahasabha, suggested
the partition ofIndiabetween Muslims and Hindus.
ALLAMA IQBAL
Allama Iqbal, delivering his Presidential speech at the annual session
of the Muslim league at Allahbad in 1930, said that:
"I would like to seePunjab, N.W.F.P, Sindh and Balouchistan
amalgamation into a single estate."
CHAUDRY REHMAT ALI
Ch.Rehmat Ali, a student iun the university of Cambridge, England,
first consider the word Pakistan in which P stands for Punjab, A for
Afghania (N.W.F.P), K for Kashmir, S for Sindh and 'tan' for
Balouchistan.
ACCEPTANCE
ThePakistanresolution was unanimously accpedted by the participants of
the Muslim League from all over. There were two major nations in the
sub-continent. The Muslims gathered under the dynamicleadership of the
Quaid-e-Azam who gave new meaning and shape to their quest for
independence.
CONCLUSION
The Lahore Resolution gave new energy and enthusiasm in the Muslims of
the subcontinent who worked in a down less and useless manner to
accomplish their long cherished good ofPakistan. Iqbal once said:
"The formation of a consolidated North East Indian Muslim State
appears to me to be the final destiny of the Muslims, at leak of
North-West India."
